Parents Against Censorship

We’re parents who believe censorship makes people less safe.

We are parents who believe that government censorship makes our kids less safe. We want our kids to be protected from harm and empowered to speak their minds and help shape the world they are growing up in. As parents, we have real concerns about the harm that Big Tech social media companies are doing to young people. But we believe that we can hold Big Tech accountable without enabling authoritarian censorship, undermining human rights, or expanding government surveillance of vulnerable people.

We support:

  • Parents and educators, not politicians, deciding what is appropriate for young people
  • Holding Big Tech companies accountable and demanding they do better by our kids
  • Passing privacy, antitrust, and algorithmic justice legislation to address real harm
  • Defending young people’s right to freedom of expression and academic inquiry

We oppose:

  • Dangerous censorship bills like the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA)
  • Misguided legislation that undermines the free speech protections in Section 230
  • Expansions of surveillance and attacks on privacy tools like encryption
  • Book bans, drag bans, attacks on school and university curriculums

I don't think my kids are safer or better off when information is hidden from them online. I want them to be able to use the internet to ask questions, explore ideas, and be creative, and that isn't possible when some government entity gets to decide what content isn't appropriate for my kids.
